Hi Sophia! We're so glad you could take this interview and we're so excited to be able to learn all things Sophia Scinto Style! Let's start from the beginning! When did you fall for fashion?
I’ve been inspired since a very young age thanks to my mom who is a major fashionista and has always dressed her absolute best. To be specific, my love for it sparked when I was in middle school learning to sew for the first time. That hands-on creativity brought out a new side in me. When my 7th grade teacher graded one of my projects, she wrote in bright red ink on my paper “I can see you making it big because of how you dress!” I’ll never forget her words and will always hold them close to me. I still have that note and the first binder I brainstormed fashion sketches in when I was 11!
Would you wear the very first outfit you put together now?
Yes, I would! I’d say my style has been very consistent throughout the years but, of course, it’s definitely evolved from when I first started out. It’s just fun to reflect back on when I first began.
What is the best part of creating your look?
The possibilities of fashion are endless, and I love that you don’t have to have just ONE style. When creating a specific look it brings out your current mood and exactly what you want the clothes to say about you in that moment. Clothes say a lot without speaking at all – It’s a visual representation of your personality.
Do you like a theme when it comes to putting together a look for someone else?
Yes, it’s important to be cohesive with looks no matter what it may be for (a photoshoot, show, etc.) Without a theme it’s kind of all over the place. Once I get to know someone, it’s almost natural to figure out exactly what that theme will be.
What is the most consistent advice you have to give when trying a new look?
My motto, no matter if I’m styling or designing clothes, is to be adventurous and bold. It’s all about confidence and anyone has that power! It doesn’t matter your gender, size, etc. you can wear what you want and OWN it. Take risks and have fun with it – the possibilities are endless.
Are there any challenges to coming up with THE vision you know is just perfect for someone but they're not ready to take the leap?
I think the #1 most important thing in styling anyone is making sure they feel comfortable and confident. Compromise can be a challenge for some, but learning about the client and understanding their wants and needs will make the process flow naturally.
How important is branding when it comes to style?
I think it’s extremely important to develop something that screams YOU. Without that, you’ll blend in and mirror everyone else. You want your style to be distinct and emerging from the cookie cutter trends.
Is there a style that is a NO GO every time?
I have such a strong appreciation for everyone’s own individual style that it’s hard for me to dislike or point any fingers! I love being open to new styles and discovering emerging trends. Everyone’s individuality is what makes fashion so special. Essentially, the “no go” is tailored to each person specifically in making sure it’s flattering on THEM and doesn’t look lazy.
What is a trend that is always a YES?!
A trend right now that I think is awesome is the “dopamine” trend! With the ongoing pandemic, dressing happy and authentically to you is what this trend emulates. Pops of fun prints and happy colors (which are always my favorite) have a visually pleasing effect on the viewer leaving them feeling optimistic. I think we can all agree that it's needed in the world right now!
How do you set yourself apart to keep your uniqueness?
I’ve always described my style as one that is inspired and guided by the future. I try not to reflect styles of the past or anything that’s been overplayed. And if I do, I do it in my own, modernized way with a fresher input. With that, I identify my uniqueness from this.
Where does the confidence come from when you made the choice that you needed to pursue fashion?
Although it’s an incredibly cutthroat, competitive industry, it’s always something I’ve been avidly passionate about going on 11 years now. I’ve been determined from the jump, and once you have that intense devotion towards anything it will never go away. With that being said, I could never let my younger self down. While keeping that in the back of my head at all times, I’ve done everything in my power to remain consistent towards my career goals.
What is the most daring decision you have made so far in your career?
While still working my full time 9-5 job I launched my own fashion business and brand! I’ve overworked and pushed myself past my limits but sometimes you need to hustle to get to where you want to be in the long run. I was juggling making custom pieces for clients, designing for my own brand, and even taking freelance modeling jobs all while working at this job. I knew that as long as I ended up doing what I loved in the end, the risk and effort put in would be entirely worth it to me.
What is the most daring style you've done?
I would have to say outfits with some pretty interesting cut outs. I’ve designed and sewn a few daring pieces myself with alluring shapes and silhouettes (which you can find on my Instagram https://instagram.com/slsthebrand). I love a fun cut out at the waist, neckline, hips, etc. When bringing shapes and illusions into any garment, there’s so many possibilities of accentuating your specific body type in different, flattering ways.
Is there anything in your closet you're updating right now that you would like to pass on to others?
Blazers and suit sets are so in! I’m obsessed with this look and love that we’re bringing back the ideation of power suits from the 80s. It’s professional, yet you can style it SO many different ways. An oversized blazer with a belt and sneakers, a cropped blazer and matching skirt with heels – SO cute. You can find many celebrities wearing it like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber in their daily streetwear looks.
How can people follow your fashion journey?

Last but not least, leave us with your best style advice you've received EVER.
Wear what you want and don’t care what anyone thinks! Your happiness is the number one priority. Always remember that as it applies to anything in life, but fashion plays a huge role, if not the biggest role, in expressing yourself. The second you understand that is the second identifying your personal style and brand makes sense!
Thank you Sophia! SHINE ON AND STAY STYLISH!
